SUPERBYTE 2014 – CHIPTUNE, RETRO GAMING & 8 BIT ARTS FESTIVAL
After wowing audiences two years running and quickly becoming one of the cornerstone events in the international chiptune community; SuperByte will return to present its third instalment on Friday 12th & Saturday 13th of September 2014.
SuperByte launched in 2012 as a one day chiptune & retro gaming event in Manchester. In 2013 the event expanded to 3 days and included an open stage & pre-party event, plus two solid evenings of live chiptune, visual arts and 8 bit/low-tech inspired music from an array of international artists; from the UK, Europe, America and Australia.
This year’s main event takes place in The Zoo, one of Manchester’s finest underground clubbing venues with other activities, an official pre-party and a number of fringe events happening in various venues around the city.
SuperByte is a celebration of all things low-tech, DIY and lo-fi, where nostalgia takes a back seat and forward-thinking creativity is encouraged through limitation. Visual artists and musicians use vintage technology to produce mind-blowing audio and visual spectacles which defy the limits of the hardware and create an immersive experience that expands and improves with every edition.
Artists already confirmed include Swedish demoscene legend Goto80, Latvian minimal wave hero Kodek, US Game Boy hotshot Trey Frey, iconic chipmusic pioneers Dubmood, US nerdcore sensation Mega Ran and many, many more. As well as presenting live music and visual art from some of the world’s best and most promising artists, SuperByte hosts a wide-ranging selection of other activities including a varied programme of workshops, retro gaming expos and free-play areas, a market space, open stage and pre-party, art exhibitions and galleries and much more.
